In-vitro fertilisation and intracytoplasmic sperm injection in Bonn

IVF/ICSI enable the fertilisation of the egg cell outside of the body. The sperm either penetrates the egg cell by itself (IVF) or is injected (IVF with ICSI). The fertilised egg cell is then transferred to the uterus where it can develop further.

In the case of IVF, the sperm penetrate into the egg cells by themselves. Under the optimal conditions of the special liquid culture, the majority of fertilisations can take place in this way. IVF with ICSI is recommended, for example, if the sperm has a low concentration or has limited mobility, in cases of immunological infertility or if the sperm has been acquired by means of TESE.

IVF/ICSI with MESA und TESE

MESA and TESE are two procedures for the acquisition of sperm. In the case of microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA) sperm is taken from the epididymus, and in the case of testicular/epididymal sperm extraction (TESE) from the testicular tissue. MESA and TESE are used when the sperm in the semen is extremely limited in terms of quantity or if there is no sperm at all present in the seminal fluid (azoospermia). The extracted tissue can be frozen and, if necessary, used for multiple treatments. Generally one operation is sufficient.

Blastocyst treatment in Bonn

Blastocyst treatment refers to the cultivation of the fertilised cells until the blastocyst stage. Reaching the blastocyst stage is a necessary condition for pregnancy. When an embryo that has already successfully reached the blastocyst stage is transferred to the uterus, the probability of further development is greater.

Cryopreservation in Bonn: Freezing egg cells

During cryopreservation, egg cells (both unfertilised and fertilised), sperm or tissue are extracted and frozen by means of the most innovative and safe procedure.

It is used:

• in the event of a surplus of fertilised egg cells in IVF/ICSI treatment

• as a means of supporting family planning, in that optimal, fertile egg cells can be preserved for fertilisation at a later time

• as a means by which tissue extracted by means of MESE/TESA can be frozen for later use

• In order to preserve fertility in spite of chemo or radiation therapy

Our cryopreservation in Bonn uses only the vitrification process, whereby the egg cells are cooled very quickly using the so-called flash-freezing technique. The frozen egg cells are stored completely securely by ourselves, in Bonn, and can be re-thawed in what is a highly flexible procedure. They can be fertilised immediately after re-thawing by means of IVF with ICSI or transferred directly into the uterus.

Cryotransfer in Bonn at the Kinderwunschzentrum Bonner Bogen (Fertility Centre)

During cryotransfer we insert fertilised, preserved egg cells into the uterus, where they can develop into a baby by natural means. The procedure is uncomplicated and does not take long. The practice owners can provide you with personal support and consultation in all matters.

Ongoing procedures

At the Fertility centre Bonner Bogen we offer the following additional procedures:

IMSI (Intracytoplasmatic Morphologic Selected Sperm Injection)

Here sperm that is eligible for IVF is selected by means of a particularly sophisticated microscopic procedure, so that only those sperm that are optimally suited for fertilisation are transferred.

Assisted Hatching

After the early cell division stages, the embryo brakes out of the egg membrane. However, in some cases, in particular in older women, the egg membrane is too thick for this. With assisted hatching we help the embryo to slip out of the embryonic membrane by making fine cuts in the egg membrane.

PBD Polar Body Diagnosis

In particular among the risk group of women over 35 years of age, polar body diagnosis can help reduce the risk of miscarriage caused by genetic conditions.

Endometrial Scratching

If, during the luteal phase, a fine groove (“scratch”) is made in the uterus, this can improve the course of the subsequent implantation.

Fertility preservation

Radiation and chemotherapy can damage the tissue in the ovaries and testicles. In order to preserve fertility, tissue can be frozen prior to the radiation or chemotherapy.
